Italian is a gorgeous language. It's the language of love and food. But if you want to learn it, you'll need a few more words than spaghetti and amore. There are many options for learning languages but one of the most convenient options is using audio books. You could also learn Italian online using the many free tools available. Regardless of why you want to learn this beautiful language, there are a lot of options.

Italian language has Latin roots

In my husband's family "speaking Italian" means using your hands a lot. If you are planning on traveling to Italy any time soon, gesturing won't get you very far. You'll want to actually learn conversational phrases that will help you get around. Italian developed from Latin and it is a relatively easy language to learn for English speakers. With a little bit of work, you should be able to learn to speak Italian well enough to navigate from Rome to Capri to Assissi.

Pimsleur Italian allows 'organic' learning

Many people turn to the Pimsleur method of learning Italian. This is based on the idea that adults can learn to speak another language much the way a child learns to speak it. With organic learning, students learn grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation simultaneously. Each thirty minute lesson builds on the one before and unlike the traditional classroom setting, you can really master each lesson before moving on to the next. Once you build your core vocabulary you should achieve 70-80% understanding. Not only that, you'll learn to speak with the proper accent.

Learning Italian with audios in the car

There are also many free resources available online. You can use these to go at your own pace and really learn to speak Italian. Whether you exclusively learn Italian online or use it to supplement more traditional methods, it's a great tool. Practicing in your car allows you to try out the accent without making a fool of yourself in front of your friends and family. Heck, just having the audio books on in the background can do wonders for your mood-making you feel more sophisticated, amorous or even craving pasta.

Speak Italian like a native Italian!

With regular practice you can learn enough Italian to shop and eat in Rome. Whether you learn from a traditional method like Pimsleur or through all the different resources available online, you can go at your own pace and really learn this magnificent language. Before you know it you'll be speaking like a native Italian.
